Welcome to Dha Hanu & Batalik
The Dha-Hanu area was a popular tourist draw in the 1990s, attracting a regular trickle of visitors to its remote villages, warm microclimates, and the curious costumes and semi-animist culture of the Brokpa-Aryan people. These days, however, such ethnic tourism seems a little outmoded; the Brokpas have become much more integrated into Ladakhi lifestyles; and the need for a permit adds a slight disincentive. Thus very few foreigners come any more. Yet the stark Indus Valley scenery remains impressive; there are some appealing villages and a series of ancient petroglyphs.
