There are numerous self-contained shopping districts to choose from in South Delhi, but most are quite a hike from each other so you'll probably want to select just one of two. For designer Indian clothing, including fancy footwear, Hauz Khas Village and Shahpur Jat Village are best; M-Block Market is more midrange. Cut-price Western clothing is sold at the frenetic Sarojini Nagar Market, while souvenir hunters should make a beeline for Dilli Haat.
- Coffee Join bean-loving South Delhiites for a brew in one of the neighbourhood's numerous independent cafes. Hauz Khas has a few, including the quirky Kunzum Travel Cafe, where you pay whatever you like for your French-press coffee. You'll also find one or two in Shahpur Jat Village, including popular Cafe Red, while Kailash Colony Market has Big Chill Cafe amongst others.
- Green Escapes Hauz Khas is the most popular hangout for locals in this neighbourhood. The ruins overlooking the reservoir are perfect picnic territory, while the adjacent deer park is popular with families.
- Shopping If you want to shop like a local rather than like a tourist, give Dilli Haat a miss and head instead to one of South Delhi's less contrived street markets. M-Block Market has midrange clothing stores, ice-cream parlours, snack stalls and eateries, strung along a pleasant, tree-lined avenue. For more frantic bargain-hunting, head to Lajpat Nagar Central Market.
