Dangers & Annoyances

Chhattisgarh is one of the eastern states where Naxalite guerrillas (an ultra-leftist political movement that began in Naxal Village, West Bengal) are active. They carry out occasional attacks on police, government officials and politicians, including on roads, mainly in the southern half of the state especially in districts near the Odisha (Orissa) and Telangana borders, but there have been no reported incidents involving foreigners in recent years, if ever. Even so, it pays to check travel warnings before venturing here and to be cautious during times of potential political turbulence (such as during elections), when bombings and attacks generally increase.
