Historically know as a white town, It was built by the British East India Company in 1640 AD. The fort is believed to be the first establishment of the British in India. It is a military architecture marvel, and now the fort is serving as the administrative headquarters of the legislative assembly of the state of Tamil Nadu. The most popular structures inside the fort include the Museum, Wellesley House and Clive House. You will visit The Fort Museum, which contains a large selection of arms and armaments, and exhibits a wide range of artifacts dating back to the British period. Next, you will visit the Kapaleeshwar Temple, built around the 7th century CE. It is a fine example of Dravidian architecture and is dedicated to Lord Shiva, called Kapaleeshwar. The statue of his wife, Parvati, is also situated in the temple and known as Karpagamabl.
