Now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 16th century Amber Fort, also known as the Amer Fort, came into existence much before the city of Jaipur was founded. Commissioned by Raja Man Singh I, the fort served as the capital of the Kachwaha Rajput kingdom and was built as a safety haven to protect the kingdom from attacking enemies. Construction of the fort was completed under Mirza Raja Jaising I. The exterior of the fort consists of a fine combination of red sandstone and white marble; an exquisite example of the blend of Hindu and Islamic architecture. On days of the full moon, and when the weather is perfect, one can see the reflection of this astonishing palace in the serene Lake Maota, situated in front of the fort. The Sheesh Mahal within the fort is recognized as one of the most stunning palaces in Jaipur. See the fresco carved in marble, featuring unique designs like a hooded cobra, a fish tail, an elephant’s tail etc. The two-storey Ganesh pol gateway, decorated with delicate jaali (lattice) screens is also worth a watch. Take a jeep ride back to the base from where we drive to your hotel to mark the conclusion of your tour.
