One of our favourite little inns in Iceland, this boutique hotel fills a lovingly restored timber house that creaks in the most charming way when winds howl off the fjord. The friendly owner has outfitted cosy (tiny!) rooms with traditional woollen blankets, original artwork and organic Coco-Mat mattresses. Complimentary iPads and a homemade breakfast (2500kr) sweeten the deal.
Luxury beds and power showers are offered at Hótel Egilsen. Baldur Ferry Terminal and boats to the West Fjords and Flatey island are 300 metres away. Wi-Fi is free. Set in an 1860s building, Hótel Egilsen’s charming rooms have iPod docking stations and views of the Atlantic Ocean. The shared guest lounge has a small library. Fresh, organic eggs are offered each morning. Lunch includes homemade bread and soup with spices from Egilsen’s garden. Warm waffles and blueberry pie are also served. Snæfellsjökull National Park is 74 km from Egilsen Hótel. The public swimming pool, Sundlaug Stykkishólms, is within 5 minutes’ drive.
