Southeast Iceland in detail

Flights & getting there

Buses drive the Ring Road (Rte 1), connecting Reykjavík and popular towns in Iceland's Southwest with destinations further east along the south coast.

Vík is a popular departure point for Kirkjubæjarklaustur; it's then 200km east to the next town, Höfn – and along the way the primary stops for buses are Skaftafell and Jökulsárlón. Travelling by bus between Southeast Iceland and the East (from Höfn to, say, Egilsstaðir) is not possible in winter, and no longer easy in summer. Your own wheels will allow for a much more in-depth exploration of the area.

There is a small airport at Höfn with regular flights to Reykjavik domestic airport.
