For those experienced Iceland travellers, Do you find there are last-minute lodging bookings available, possibly for discount, as I get closer to my travel dates in early September? I'm finding a lot of sold-out lodgings in the less expensive places, 4.5 months out, and am curious if I just wait closer until my trip date to book.
Also, bookings.com mentions free cancellation with no credit card or account necessary until just a few days before arriving. Is this for real, no unrefundable…
I'd like to spend one or two nights to do a short day hike in the Vatnajökull National Park around Skaftafell. But I can't find information on affordable places to stay in early September. We're not camping. Otherwise I see options for Hotel Skaftafell, Hof 1, and Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon. All are on the more expensive side than we'd like. Ideally we're trying to find farm houses/BnB to rent with a kitchen so we can cook our own meals. We're 4 adults and 1 child travelling together.
My friend and I want to bike/hike/camp in Iceland. Need recommendations on bike rental. Are there racks to hold panniers for our own equipment? Is it safe to leave bikes (locked) in campgrounds? Are there special bike rental rates for 1 week or 2? Is it safe to leave locked bikes at a trail head (for hiking)?

Bear this in mind when booking that holiday?

Hi-we are doing a ten day ring road trip in the first few weeks of May. Right now we had planned on one night in Myvatn and one night in Akureyri while in the Northern region but now maybe thinking we should stay in one place or the other for 2 nights instead. Does anyone have any advice on this? We do want to do a whale trip as well as seeing the highlights of the North. After leaving the North is our longest drive of the trip as we head to Stykkisholmer so staying both nights in Myvatn would…
I know it is recommended to book the Blue Lagoon in advance, but what about other Iceland highlights?
I am thinking in particular of Husavik Whale Watching and the Myvatn Nature Baths. Is it more a case of just rolling up to these?
We are looking at the tail end of August.
Hello we are looking for the puffins but appear to be too early here in Dyrholaey. Is anyond in Latrabjarg or Borgarfjorour that has seen them? Or does anyone know another place to find them or are we out of luck ? thanks in advance for any advice
I was looking to travel to Iceland in the middle of May, solo; but I did not plan on renting a car. I was wondering what are the modes of transportation for getting around, if there are any?
Like many people om here I am after some advise on my travel itinerary for my planned trip from the 10th to the 22nd of September. There are two of us going (F26 M35) and this is just a rough layout for the trip with lots of room for change. Planning on hiring a 4x4 for the trip too.
