After visiting Möðrudalur, many folks head into the central highlands via nearby Rte F905 (note you'll need to be well set up for highland exploration, and a 4WD vehicle is essential).

Glaciers and Aurora: Around Iceland in Winter

Day 1: ArrivalAfter settling in to your hotel in Reykjavik on day 1 you will meet your guide and other travellers in the group on the morning of day 2. Day 2: The Golden CircleToday we will start with a short Reykjavik city tour. Walk around downtown Reykjavik, explore the harbour and Hallgrímskirkja church. And later on that same day we will visit all the famous sights of the Golden Circle such as Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir National Park. Day 3: South Coast of IcelandOn the third day we will travel around the south shore of Iceland where we will hike towards a glacial tongue, explore black sand beaches and visit the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. From there we drive to the Glacier Lagoon (Jokulsarlon) before heading to our overnight stay. Day 4: Blue Ice Cave and Skafafell AreaToday you will visit an authentic ice-cave in Vatnajökull glacier and in the afternoon we will spend more time in the Glacial lagoon area.Day 5: East IcelandNow we will head to beautiful coastal region of the East Fjords, with spectacular landscape, high mountains and deep fjords. That night we will stay in Modrudalur valley, the highest inhabited place in the country, at 469 m (1,539 ft) above sea level.  Day 6: Lake Myvatn AreaFrom Modrudalur we drive to the magnificent waterfall Dettifoss, Europe's mightiest waterfall (subject to road conditions). Then we will explore the Lake Mývatn area, one of the most interesting geological and geographical areas of the northern hemisphere. Among the interesting sights we will explore on this day Námaskarð Geothermal Area, and the lava labyrinth Dimmuborgir. And we will finish the day by relaxing in the warm waters of Myvatn Nature baths. Day 7: North IcelandOn the 7th day we will visit Goðafoss, the waterfall of the Gods and then stop to explore the town of Akureyri, the biggest town outside of Reykjavik. Day 8: The Snaefellsnes PeninsulaThen the tour continues around the Snaefellsnes peninsula and its magnificent glacier Snaefellsjokull. Among places that we visit are basaltic pebble beach, framed with strange lava formations, and Arnarstapi, where a short stroll along the coastal cliffs gives us access to the rich birdlife and other wonders of nature.  Day 9: Borgarfordur AreaWe head to Reykjavik to close our circle. First stop is at the old volcano Grabrok where we take a walk to the top. There we continue to Hraunfossar (Lava waterfalls) and Barnafossar (Children´s waterfalls). Then we will visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s water most hot spring. From there the tour goes directly to Reykjavik trough the Whale fjord (Hvalfjordur).Day 10: DepartureFly back home or enjoy extra nights in Reykjavik.
