The dramatically sheer mountain Hafnarfjall (844m) rises south across the fjord from Borgarnes. You can climb it (7km) from the trailhead on Rte 1, near the southern base of the causeway into Borgarnes. Be careful of slippery scree cliffs once you ascend. You'll get sweeping views from the top.
