Goðafoss plays an important role in the Icelandic history, particularly in connection with the introduction of Christianity. Our first stop at the Lake Mývatn area are the picturesque Skútustaðagígar Psuedo Craters, formed from explosions when the flowing hot lava met with the ice cold water from the lake. We continue to Dimmuborgir Lava Fields, full of lava-pillars and formations that are rich of mythical sagas and ghoulish trails. We come to the warm underground river in Grjótagjá Rift, where you will stand on the continental rift between Europe and America. The final stop by Lake Mývatn is the geothermal area of Hverir, with boiling mud pools, steaming fumaroles and sulphur pits. Various photo stops are added to the tour depending on the weather.
