Mahart PassNave runs boats from Budapest to Szentendre (one way/return 2310/3470Ft) Tuesday to Sunday between May and August, departing Budapest at 9am and arriving in Szentendre at 10.30am, before carrying on to Visegrád and Esztergom. They leave Szentendre for Budapest at 7pm. The service is reduced to Saturdays only in April and September.
A 10.30am boat runs to Szentendre daily in July and August, Tuesday to Sunday in May, June, September and October and on Saturdays in April. It returns from Szentendre at 5pm.
A 2pm sailing to Szentendre departs Tuesday to Sunday in July and August, returning from Szentendre at 7pm.
Buses from Budapest's Újpest-Városkapu train station, which is on the M3 blue metro line, run to Szentendre at least once an hour (310Ft, 25 minutes, 15km). Onward service to Visegrád (465Ft, 45 minutes, 24km) and Esztergom (930Ft, 1½ hours, 49km) run hourly.
The easiest way to reach Szentendre from Budapest is to catch the H5 HÉV suburban train from Batthyány tér in Buda (660Ft, 40 minutes, every 10 to 20 minutes). Remember that a yellow city-bus/metro ticket is good only as far as the Békásmegyer stop. Buy the 310Ft Békásmegyer–Szentendre supplement ticket from a ticket machine at Batthyány tér, or at Szentendre if travelling the other way. Note, many HÉV trains run only as far as Békásmegyer, where you must cross the platform to board the train for Szentendre. The last train leaves Szentendre for Budapest just after 12.30pm.
