Conakry is a long, narrow city, built on the Kaloum Peninsula. In the centre you'll find shady trees, a few colonial era buildings, the banks, airline offices, several restaurants and a few hotels. About 2km east of the city centre, the peninsula narrows, and then at Pont du 8 Novembre the road divides into Route de Donka to the north, leading to the buzzing Camayenne neighbourhood; Corniche Sud to the south; and the Autoroute up the middle. About 10km north of the city centre are the lively Rogbané and Taouyah quartiers (neighbourhoods). Be aware that trying to travel from the city centre to one of the outlying areas can take hours during the morning and evening rush hours.
