Welcome to Tulate
Tulate is a tiny village that remains almost defiantly off the radar of most travelers. The lack of breakers means that Guatemala's surfing scene gives it a wide berth, but the gently shelving beach makes it a great place to swim and just hang around and have some fun (bodysurfers should still be able to get a ride any time of the year).
A strip of mangroves separates Tulate proper from its beach – you have to catch a boat (Q5) across the estuary. Once on the other side, the water is 500m in front of you, straight down the only paved street.
