With 65 beaches to pick from, beach-hopping on Skiathos can become a full-time occupation. Buses (€1.60 to €2) ply the beach-bejewelled south coast, stopping at 26 numbered beach-access points; the final stop is protected Koukounaries in the southwest, from where you can access several other lovely beaches (though the popular twin Banana beaches were mostly off-limits at research time due to construction work). Most south-coast beaches have sunbeds (€8), tavernas and beach bars.
The northwest coast's beaches are less crowded and more unspoilt, though subject to summer meltemi (dry northerly winds). There are also alluring beaches on outlying islets such as Tsougria, which you can reach by taxi boat from Skiathos Town.
