Flights & getting there


Ferries depart from the quay at the far southern end of the Halikia pebble beach. Buy tickets at Selino Travel.

Ferries run to Sougia (€11.20, 40 minutes), Agia Roumeli (€17.20, 1½ hours) and Hora Sfakion (€20.70). Some boats can transport cars and scooters.

There are also two or three weekly ferries to Gavdos Island (€23.30, four hours) via Sougia and Agia Roumeli.


KTEL runs four daily buses to Hania (€8.30, 1¾ hours) and one bus daily except Sunday at 6.15am to Omalos (€7, one hour) for Samaria Gorge. Buses also stop in Sougia and, on request, at the Agia Irini Gorge trailhead. There are also Elafonisi-bound buses (€5.50, one hour).


Notos Rentals has cars, motorcycles and bicycles for hire. There are two petrol stations in town. Fuel up before heading on longer drives in the region, where petrol stations are rare to nonexistent.
