Boats leave from the old harbour at the far pebbly beach's southern end. Buy tickets at Selino Travel.
There is a daily morning ferry to Sougia (€11.20, 40 minutes) and Agia Roumeli (€17.20, 1½ hours) where the boat stops for 90 minutes before continuing to Loutro (€19.70, 40 minutes) and Hora Sfakion (€20.70, 20 minutes from Loutro). Some boats can transport cars and scooters.
From May to October, there are also two or three weekly ferries to Gavdos Island (€23.30, four hours) via Sougia and Agia Roumeli. One ferry daily except Sunday goes out to the west-coast beach of Elafonisi (€10, one hour).
KTEL runs four daily buses to Hania (€8.30, two hours) and one bus daily except Sunday at 6.15am to Omalos (€6.40, two hours) for Samaria Gorge. Buses also stop in Sougia and, on request, at the Agia Irini Gorge trailhead. There are also thrice-weekly Elafonisi-bound buses (€5.50, 1½ hours).
Notos Rentals has cars, motorcycles and bicycles for hire. There are two petrol stations in town. Gas up before heading on longer drives in the region, where petrol stations are rare to nonexistent.
