Milos and its offshore islets boast more than 70 splendid beaches in different-coloured sands and stone. Rent wheels or take a cruise to compare.

In the north, Plathiena is a fine sandy beach beyond Plaka, and on the way you can visit fishing villages Areti and Fourkovouni. Firopotamos is a delightful little sandy cove with a taverna, while Mandrakia is a tiny fishing outpost with a practically deserted sweep of sand and calm waters. Also in this area, Sarakiniko is a must, with its snow-white rock formations for sunbathing, a tiny sand beach and a deep channel for swimming. In the very north, if you have an ATV, you'll have the Nerodafni and Trachilas beaches almost to yourself.

On the south coast, golden-sanded Provatas feels remote but has a couple of tavernas. Kyriaki is backed by otherworldly grey-, rose- and rust-coloured hills and has soft, grey sand. The long taupe arch of Paleohori is backed by banded cliffs and has beach bars, water sports and hot sand, thanks to thermal springs in the area.
