Elafonisi - Pink Sands

Elafonisi is translated from Greek as Deer island. However, there are no deers but there’s pink sand! This place is so unique with its unbelievable colors, rare animals and unique history.You can have great time here, beaches are very well equipped. You can rent beach beds, umbrellas and have lunch here.One more place that we’re going to visit on our way is Cave of Agia Sofia with impressive stalactites and stalagmites as well as Hrisoskalitissa monastery. Located at 285 m above the sea level this place is truly sublime in its natural beauty, spirituality and history. Remember that to visit this place you need to wear clothes that cover your knees and shoulders. Our route to this place goes through picturesque road. You’ll be able to see amazing nature of Crete, some traditional villages that will should you unique Cretan lifestyle. We can also stop for a tasting of olive oil, thyme honey and, of course, raki - local vodka. Our journey will finish with traditional meal at a tavern.

Panorama of Kythira 5hrs or 8hrs

Our tour of Kythira begins at the monastery of Our Lady Myrtidiotissa. The monastery is located to the west of Kythira, at the end of a wonderful journey that has a rich alternation between wild cliffs and green vegetation. Our tour will take in the grand monastery with its imposing steeple built of porous stone, which stands 25 metres high. Inside the monastery, you will see the 10 marble columns that support the roof of the church, which were found intact 200m away from the church during the period that it was being built, the Tourkalas (Turkish woman’s) wax candles, whose child was saved by the Virgin Mary, and most importantly the miraculous gold icon of Panagia Myrtidiotissa (the Virgin Mary). We will also have a chance to visit the small museum at the Monastery before returning to the coach.

Karavas Mitata Avlemonas 5hrs or 8hrs

Our tour begins in the leafy village of Karavas in the north-east of Kythira. We will make a short stop to take photos and visit the village’s small, yet famous bakery.From here, we will travel south to the center of the island and visit Mitata, the village that was badly damaged by the 6.9 Richter earthquake in 2006. On our arrival we will have an optional visit to the old olive press “Fava’s Liotrivi” (2€ entrance fee). This was one of the oldest olive presses on the island and it has been recently renovated by Eleni Protopsalti and Kostas Pavlakis, the grandchildren of the original owner. Here you can learn about the history of olive oil production on Kythira and watch a short time-lapse video of how the press was rebuilt. You can also purchase some of the local Kytherian products, or even some of the recipe books written by Mr Pavlakis that include traditional Kytherian recipes.

Mylopotamos Aghia Moni Diakofti 5hrs or 8hrs

Our tour begins in the village of Mylopotamos, situated to the west of Kythira.Mylopotamos is one of Kythira’s oldest villages and for this reason it has been declared a traditional settlement by the Archaeological Service. We will start our tour at the castle of “Kato Chora” which is located in the oldest neighborhood of Mylopotamos, about 1.3km from where we disembark the coach. On our way to the castle we will pass through the center of Mylopotamos and see the old English school in the square. After we visit the castle, we will explore the old houses and numerous chapels, which were still being used as late as the 1950’s. From here, you have an unrivalled view of the gorge and the sea to the west of Kythira; surely one of the best views on the island.On the way back to the village, we will visit the impressive “Fonissa” waterfall, where the water used to fall from a height of 15 metres.

A Taste of Kythira 5hrs

After joining the ferry “Porfyrousa” in Neapolis (ticket not included), you will travel to the port of Diakofti, Kythira, where you meet our representative. Here we will board the coach and begin our tour of Kythira with the monastery of Our Lady Myrtidiotissa.
