Getting There & Away

Kea’s only mainland service is to Lavrio; connections to other islands are few. Weekend boats are packed. There are twice-weekly services, on Tuesdays and Fridays, with Hellenic Seaways (www.hellenicseaways.gr) that connect Kea with Kythnos (€7, one hour 20 minutes) and Syros (€11, four hours), Kimolos (€17, 13½ hours), Milos (€14, 14½ hours) and destinations in central Cyclades, such as Paros (€17, 7¼ hours), Naxos (€22, 8½ hours) and Ios (€24, 10½ hours). Tuesday services also stop at Serifos (€16, 8¼ hours) and Sifnos (€17, nine hours). There are one to three daily services to Lavrio (€12, one hour) between mid-June and mid-August; there are fewer services the rest of the year.

Book ahead with the Stegadi ticket agent on the Korissia waterfront for Marmari Express, Makedon and Hellenic Seaways.
