Generally, people get around Hydra by walking.
The island is vehicle-free, and mules and donkeys are the main means of heavy transport. Donkey owners are clustered around the port; they transport luggage to the hotels and provide quick donkey rides around the port. Note that animal rights groups urge people to consider whether the animals are maltreated before deciding to take a ride.
In summer, caïques (little boats) from Hydra Town go to the island’s beaches. Water taxi fares are posted on the quay (Kamini €10, Vlyhos €15).
