Athens alfresco: street life in the Greek capital
One of Europe’s longest and probably prettiest walkways, the 3km-long ancient promenade circles the historic centre of the city. Locals and tourists alike come out in force for an evening volta (stroll) along the heritage trail which takes in the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Acropolis Museum, the mighty Acropolis and the Ancient Agora. You’ll also find plenty of modernity here, with open-air art exhibitions, book fairs, buskers and street traders, lending the pedestrian route a festival air.

How to spend a perfect day in Athens
The Acropolis always comes out at the top of the heap of things to see in Athens. The most famous of the Western world's ancient sights continues to impress even the most blasé of tourists as they climb the marble steps and stand before the graceful Parthenon. Spotlight on: Greek Orthodox Easter
For the Greek Orthodox Church, Easter (Pascha; 28 April 2019) is the biggest religious festival of the year, celebrated with utter reverence and almost total participation. The Holy Week is the climax of Lent, a period of devoutness and church-attending even by people who aren’t deeply religious. For many, the Resurrection has seasonal symbolism, as nature comes back to life after the winter – indeed, the spring is in its full blossoming glory and the flowery scents in the warm air produce an alluring background for the spirituality of the event.
