Sights

Leoforos Vasilissis Sofias is Athens' museum mile, with several excellent spots within a few blocks. But proximity doesn't mean you can hit them all in one day, as each one is massive and absorbing. Additionally, Kolonaki has several upscale galleries and one bonus site: the area's eponymous 'little column' (the literal meaning of Kolonaki) can be spotted in the green square of Plateia Kolonakiou.

Sleeping

Lodging in Kolonaki is, in keeping with the environs, not especially cheap, and some will find the distance to the Acropolis a bit off-putting. But if you prefer quiet and greenery, as well as proximity to museums, it's a good match.

Eating

While you might pay a bit more for the privilege of dining on Kolonaki's shady streets, you will find very good quality and a certain tranquility. Ploutarhou is a major restaurant strip.

Drinking & Nightlife

When it comes to drinking, Kolonaki has two faces: older and genteel, or young and raucous. Check out the beautiful people in all-day bars dotted along Skoufa and in the block of Tsakalof just north of Plateia Kolonaki. The plateia itself is more sedate. There's also a nice all-ages cafe on Plateia Dexameni.

Shopping

Kolonaki professes to be a lesson in how to spend it. But don't be scared off by the Balenciaga and the Gucci: there are also some very chic shops for mere mortals, usually on smaller side streets. And some of the ritziest-seeming places are not quite as pricey as they appear. As they say, it never hurts to look.
