Flights & getting there

In high season there are up to seven buses daily to Iraklio (€8.70, two hours), up to five buses to Rethymno (€6.80, 1½ hours) and to Phaestos (€2.30, 30 to 45 minutes), and around five buses to Matala (€3.60, 45 minutes), with a change in Tymbaki. Buses stop down in the village near the port.

If enough people have booked, Galini Express offers direct buses to the airport in Iraklio (from €20) and Hania (from €25).

In 2019 Anendyk ( began trialling a ferry service linking Agia Galini with Gavdos Island (two hours, one way/return €30/55) departing on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday; check the website for the latest.
