Discover the crisp wine of Santorini and learn how to cook melt-in-the-mouth Greek dishes on a 6-hour food and wine tour of the island. With a sommelier expert guide, you’ll visit two traditional wineries to sample up to eight glasses of the local wine and learn about Santorini’s volcanic soil. Help a local chef prepare Santorini signature dishes with more wine followed by a traditional lunch of your creations. Numbers are limited to eight on this small-group tour, ensuring personalized attention.
Start your Santorini wine & food tour with a hotel pickup, and then relax on the short transfer to a local vineyard - the Boutari Winery - that’s etched into the mountainside on volcanic soil. Producing some of Santorini’s renowned volcanic wine, the vineyard relies on mineral-rich aspa (the region's unique soil) that helps create wine with crisp notes and distinctive high acidity. After sampling some of the wine, continue to your second traditional Santorini estate, the Gavalas winery , to learn more about the various types of Santorini wine that is produced on the island. Hear about assytriko, a widely cultivated white-wine grape, as well as wines such as nykteri and vinsanto that are both made from assytriko but boast entirely different flavors. After visiting the winery, it's time for your cooking class. Meet the chef at Artemis Karamolegos Winery, and then roll up your sleeves to help out with the preparation of several Santorini dishes. As you cook, listen to stories about the country’s gastronomy from your chef and learn about the typical dishes of Santorini. While the dishes cooked during your class will vary each time, you can expect to cook some Santorini staples such as tomato fritters, Greek salad of Santorini and a meat dish cooked with signature sweet vinsanto wine. Towards the end of your session, sit down with your group to eat your creations along with more wine. Water is served alongside the dishes, and you can also try the Vinsanto to finish your meal like a local. Before bidding your chef a fond farewell, take a recipe card to recreate the dishes back at home. Then, return to your minibus and finish your Santorini food experience with a hotel drop-off.
