Is this famous Mauna Kea Stargazing always been on your bucket list? Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano and the world’s highest mountain when measured from the oceanic base. Due to its high altitude, dry environment, and steady airflow, Mauna Kea's summit is one of the world's best locations for astronomical observations. Our tour starts from Kailua-Kona where you will meet our guide and tour will begin in comfort with our luxury van. We will be passing on the Saddle road which is one of the most spectacular scenic roads in the world. When we arrive at Onizuka Visitor Center, we will be staying about 30 min to adjust to high altitude. Finally, our tour will continue to the summit where the highest point we can explore and enjoy the world’s best sunset. After sunset, you can observe stars with an astronomical telescope in front of the Visitor Information Center. *While VIC is closed due to its construction, our guide will set up a telescope for the telescope viewing.
ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productStop At: Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information StationLocated at 9,200 feet (2,800 meters) on Mauna Kea access road of Mauna Kea Mountain, Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information Station provides health and safety information and education about Mauna Kea. All visitors are strongly advised to spend at least half an hour to adapt to the lower air pressure and lower the level of elevation to reduce the possibility of suffering altitude sickness. Drinking water, coffee, cup noodles, snacks, and souvenirs are available. You can buy warm clothes like jackets, long pants, gloves and hats for cold weather on the summit. You can also watch a video about astronomy.
