Kumasi in detail

Flights & getting there

Kumasi airport is on the northeastern outskirts of town, about 2km from the centre. Africa World Airlines (www.flyawa.com.gh) and Starbow (www.flystarbow.com) both offer regular flights to Accra (one way starts around C260). A taxi from the centre to the airport costs about C20. Allow plenty of time because of the traffic.

At the time of research Intercity STC had just starting operating after a period of inaction, though services were subject to cancellation. VIP and VVIP offer a more frequent service, leaving from Asafo Station. Metro Mass operates fill-up-and-go services from its station on the Western bypass.

Accra C25, four hours, leaves when full; operated by VIP.

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso C110 + 7,000 CFA, 15 hours, three weekly; operated by STC.

Takoradi C30, six hours, once daily; operated by STC.

Tamale C45, five hours, once daily; operated by STC.

There are two main motor parks in Kumasi, each with its allocated destinations:

Alaba station Wa (C30, six hours), Tamale (C25, five hours)

Asafo station Cape Coast (C20, four hours), Accra (C25, four hours), Kunatase (C8, 45 minutes)
