Kotoka International Airport, just 5km north of the ring road, is the main international gateway to the country. There are also domestic flights to Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale.
It is essential that you allow plenty of time to get to the airport: even though it is relatively close to the city centre, it can only be accessed through one of Accra's most congested roads. A one-hour journey is common, two or three hours not unheard of.
A taxi from the airport to the centre should cost around C30.
After a couple of problematic years, leading many services to grind to a halt, Intercity STC is back in service, complete with a brand-new fleet of buses. For the moment, however, there are fewer departures than previously. The main Intercity STC bus station and the VIP bus station are on Ring Rd West. STC also has another depot in Tudu.
Services from Accra include:
Aflao C22, three hours, one daily, Intercity STC Tudu station
Bolgatanga C80, 18 hours, three weekly, Intercity STC Ring Rd station
