At home in a structural jewel of the renaissance The »Fugger and Welser Museum« is housed in a building that aims to bring to life the importance of Augsburg’s merchant families in the early 16th century. Prime examples of these illustrious citizens are the Fugger and Welser families, and the focus is on the main players, Jakob Fugger the Rich and Bartholomäus Welser V.Following the renovation of the significant and uniquely preserved fabric of this Renaissance building at 23 Äußeres Pfaffengäßchen, which was built around 1530, the museum has an appropriate home at the heart of Augsburg’s upper town.

If you ever take the Romantic Road, then a stop in Rothenburg ob der Tauber (meaning ”above theTauber River”) is a must. Considered by many as the perfect German fairy tale town, this place willmake the travellers feel like they live in a medieval theme park. And, because of this, Rothenburg has the strictest conservation orders from all of Germany. Elevated to a Free Imperial City in 1274,Rothenburg became one of the most important city states of the middle ages. In 1631, during theThirty Years War, Rothenburg was taken by imperial troops. Ex-Mayor Nusch saved the town bydrinking 3 litres of wine in a single gulp, the so-called "Master draught". One walk through its old town, with its web of cobbled lanes and the 14th century defensive wall will make everyoneunderstand why this is an unmissable location.
