Welcome to Osnabrück
Osnabrück is easily visited on a day trip from Münster or as a stopover en route to points north. Like Münster, it played a pivotal role in ending the Thirty Years' War (1618–48) by hosting the diplomatic negotiations leading to the Peace of Westphalia. Known as the 'City of Peace', it’s apt that Osnabrück was the birthplace of Erich Maria Remarque, author of All Quiet on the Western Front, one of the seminal anti-war novels of the 20th century. Osnabrück is also where the painter Felix Nussbaum was born; his work can be admired in a striking museum by Daniel Libeskind.
