Frankfurt in

One Day

Begin in Frankfurt's historic heart at the Kaiserdom, visiting its museum and, if you're feeling active, climbing its tower. See more of medieval Frankfurt at the Römerberg. Head west for lunch with river views at glass-framed restaurant Main Nizza. Then delve deeper into the city's rich past at the Historisches Museum Frankfurt.

Cross the river to Alt-Sachsenhausen for Frankfurt specialities and a glass of traditional Apfelwein (apple wine) at Dauth-Schneider. Hop between the bars and clubs lining cobbled Klappergasse, or catch a jazz or blues concert at Summa Summarum.

Two Days

Start your second day along the riverside Museumsufer (Museum Bank), whose row of museums cover everything from fine arts to film. Set amid parkland, the Maincafé makes a peaceful stop for lunch.

In the afternoon, take a scenic river cruise, then browse the aromatic food stalls at the Kleinmarkthall. Catch an early dinner in the candlelit cellar of Zu den 12 Aposteln and be sure to try its home-brewed beers. Then zip up the lift inside the soaring Main Tower to its observation deck for sweeping views of the city skyline after dark. Stay for cocktails, or pre-book to take in a performance at the Städtische Bühnen cultural complex.
