A natural habitat for animals and an exotic setting for humans: the ZOOM Erlebniswelt is a place where animals and humans can come face-to-face without visible cage boundaries.
Visit: Zoom Erlebniswelt, Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-WestphaliaOriginally called Ruhr-Zoo, Zoom Erlebniswelt was built atop a heavily shelled area besides the water. The zoo is divided into habitats based the animals' natural environments, including Alaska, Asia, and Africa. Between the entrances to these areas, several houses hold smaller animals, insects, and educational exhibits. The park is well known especially for its panoramas and cultural approach. The main attractions are big animals, mostly mammals; the zoo has no aquarium house, insectarium or other facilities prone to smaller animals. With more than 100 different animal species the zoo can look back on more than 60 years of history and at the same time shines in modern splendor.
