A four-hour drive and 300 km (190 mi) away from Tbilisi lies the region of Racha – a highland area located in northwestern Georgia. This place has always attracted Georgian and international tourists and, with recent infrastructure investments, it’s popularity has been booming. The main attractions here created by nature: - virgin forests on the slopes of the mountains; - the purest mountain streams; - breathtaking beauty, picturesque passes; - inaccessible mountains; - karst caves, not ennobled with lighting and hiking trails; - a beautiful lake-reservoir Shaori; - bewitching waterfalls.
We start at 8 am from Tbilisi, take the highway past Mtskheta, Gori, Uplistsikhe. Visit the industrial city of Chiatura, which has more than 20 cable cars, some of them more than 60 years old and they still function! From there through the Nakerala Pass we go to the Shaori reservoir, where the Nikortsminda church, built in the 11th century, is located. Stay for overnight in the city of Ambrolauri, which is considered the birthplace of Hvanchkara wine. Ambrolauri is found in historical records from the XVII century. In this place was the residence of the monarch, there was a tower built for the royal family and a church preserved in ruins. In the morning after a delicious breakfast, we will poison ourselves further into the mountains, to the resort village of Shovi. The height of 1600 meters, and lives here only 80 people. Resort Shovi - a place that can rightly be called truly magical. And the healing coniferous air of the woods you want to inhale the whole chest. Overnight at the guest house. We have a picturesque road back to Tbilisi via Kutaisi.
