Flights & getting there

Marshrutka departures from Borjomi’s bus station include the following:

Akhaltsikhe (4 GEL, one hour, 8.45am; more buses leave throughout the day from the bus stop across the road from the bus station in front of the Municipality)

Bakuriani (3 GEL, one hour, six daily)

Batumi (17 GEL, five hours, 9am) Arrive at least 30 minutes in advance, as this service is very popular. Extra services are laid on between June and August.

Gori (5 GEL, 1½ hours, 10.40am and 1.45pm)

Khashuri (2 GEL, 30 minutes, half-hourly 9.30am to 5.30pm)

Tbilisi (7 GEL, three hours, hourly 7am to 6pm)

There are no direct services to Kutaisi or Zugdidi; you'll need to change at Khashuri, 32km northeast of Borjomi, for those.

Borjomi taxi drivers offer day trips to Vardzia, with stops including Akhaltsikhe's Rabati Castle and two other forts, for 150 GEL for four people. The Tourist Information Centre can book this for you with English-speaking drivers.

Slow elektrichka trains leave Borjomi Park train station, just east of the suspension bridge, for Gori (2 GEL, four hours) and Tbilisi (2 GEL, five hours) at 7am and 4.40pm.

The famously scenic narrow gauge Kukushka (Cuckoo) train runs from Borjomi's Chyornaya Rechka station to Bakuriani (1 GEL to 2 GEL, 2½ hours) at 7.15am and 10.55am daily.
