I am a hostess and co-founder of project "Tea Road" in Georgia. Our story starts in Guria, the smallest but very distinct region of Georgia, with subtropical microclimates and greenness that resembles landscapes in India and Sri Lanka. Not long ago, during the Soviet Union, Guria was covered in tea plantations and was number one supplier of the tea to the Soviet Union, although soon after the breakdown of the Soviet Union the market collapsed. After 20 years, I and my family revived our plantation and are eager to tell the world more about history, techniques and importance of Georgian tea.Our product is homemade and special! We love good conversations along with tea!
Our farm is situated on a small hill, you will start the tour in front of our 150-year-old, traditional, wooden house. The tour will consist of three main stages: History, Practice and Tasting (with snacks). In the beginning, I will tell you shortly about the ancient history of tea and the history of tea in Georgia, that dates back to 1800s. We will reveal how first tea bushes appeared in Georgia and tell you about charming Chinese expert - Lao Jonjao, who settled in Georgia in 1893. Afterwards, we will walk down towards the tea plantations with sun hats and baskets, and where you will learn you how to pick tea leaves yourself. After some practice, we will move on our balcony, where the tea ceremony will begin. You will taste three different types of tea, black, green and berries while discussing tea making techniques and its importance.
