We're going to Gabon in December and notice that visas are a hassle unless you have them provided in connection with a booked tour. Since our main destination is Loango N.P., we're going to need some transport and lodging to and out of Port-Gentil. It occurred to me that if we can book that in advance through a local travel company, we might get the visas as well. Can anybody who has been to Gabon recommend a tour operator in Libreville or Port-Gentil?
Can anyone recommend a good driver/guide in Gabon, ideally with their own 4x4? I plan on spending a month exploring the national parks by road, and I'd rather a local did the driving/negotiating etc.
I'm planning a month long trip to Gabon with a few days crossing into Congo if at all possible. I'm mainly looking to visit the national parks and local tribes in Gabon, and in Congo I'd like to visit Lossi animal sanctuary and Odzala-Kokoua NP.
I want to hire 4x4s and was wondering if it's possible to cross into Congo at Lebango. Has anyone done it recently?
I'm planning a 3 week cycling trip with my girlfriend around Gabon but I can't seem to find much (or any) info about it. Anyone has experience cycling there? Any recommandations or places not to be missed? How are the roads? Do they allow cyclists in National Parks? Is it easy enough to camp in the country? How about finding supplies outside the main towns?
Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
A Gabon trip is approaching. What is the best strategy regardning money?
Bring Euro and change along the trip? I will mainly be in the interior.
Pay the expenses in National parks with Euro or CFA?
I would prefer Euro as much as possible, but if its wiser to change most of it to CFA I will do so.
Where to do exchange for good rates?
ATMs, too big fees or a good way to get cash?
Tips on money strategies most welcome!
I'm due to fly to Libreville on Sat 2nd Dec and immediately connect to Port-Gentil. Visa should arrive today. Trip only came up end of last week so not much time to research. Will figure out as I go. Can anyone confirm if there is ATM (VISA card) access in Port-Gentil? I read the old posts about ATM (Visa) access in Libreville, so it seems no problem in Libreville but I'll not have the chance to access any ATM in Libreville (unless it's in the airport). Any info. from recent travelers in…
I went to the Gabon embassy in Pretoria this week and was told that i could not apply for the visa as i dont need it .
Apparently as on October 31 2017 nationals from the usual countries ... US EU Aus and so on no longer need any kind of visa and can enter by land or plane visa free. I took a photo of the memo she had on the wall and i am certain it is right.but i would worry that maybe the land borders hadnt been informed as i will enter from Congo by land.
Does anyone have any experience with…
I have booked a Gabon trip in Jan 2018. I will arrive the 2nd and depart the 20th.
The first leg is already organized. A four day stay in Lope NP arranged by Mikongo Vision.
In the second and third week I will visit Ivindo NP and Moukalaba-Doudau NP respectively. Possibly Loango too.
In these places I will try to arrange stays inside the NPs when I get there. Tips regarding this are welcome.
If any naturalist is in the area these weeks I'd be interested in co-arranging trips in NPs in…
