Cycling is a great way to explore the area around St-Rémy – although you'll need strong legs if you want to make it all the way up into Les Alpilles.

There are several bike-rental companies around town, most of which will deliver within a 20km radius of St-Rémy; contact Telecycles or Vélo-Passion.

Alternatively, battery-assisted electric bikes can be hired from Sun e-Bike and Vélo-Passion (from €35).

Allô Cartreize buses depart from place de la République.

Arles (50 minutes, €2.50, two daily) line 54; also stops in Cavaillon for onward travel into the Luberon Valley.

Avignon (€3.60, one hour, at least one every two hours).

St-Rémy gets packed in summer; there's parking by the tourist office (parking Jean-Jaurès) and north of the periphery (parking Général-de-Gaulle).
