Introduction

This remote village in the countryside northwest of Verdun would be easy to overlook were it not for its huge and deeply saddening WWI cemetery, where a sea of crosses stretches to infinity. The surrounding landscape is pockmarked with the craters of artillery shells – some of which are still churned up on a daily basis. The heart-tugging museum here, Romagne '14-'18, is one of the most fascinating of its kind.
