Welcome to Paimpol
Set around a former fishing harbour, now a boating harbour, Paimpol is rich in history. It was the one-time home port of the Icelandic fishery, when the town's fishermen would set sail to the seas around Iceland for seven months or more at a stretch. Pierre Loti's 1886 novel Pêcheur d'Islande (An Iceland Fisherman) describes the experience. Paimpol is also rich in legends – the fishermen lost at sea are recalled in folk tales and chants de marins (sea shanties).
