Welcome to La Motte
Its red-tiled roofs framed by green hillsides, La Motte is a flourishing centre of viticulture, surrounded by 11 different wineries. The town itself is quintessentially Provençal and well worth a stop for its quiet tangle of streets, convivial squares, limestone houses and bubbling fountains. Watered by the Nartuby and Endre Rivers, the area has been inhabited at least since Celtic times, although the oldest remaining building is the parish church, which dates to the 11th century and was largely reconstructed in the 18th. La Motte has the distinction of being the first town in Provence liberated (by paratroopers) in WWII – a fact celebrated in the naming of the av du 15 Août 1944, which runs through the centre of town.
