Getting There & Away
As a principle overland point of access to Brittany leading to the Golfe du Morbihan, Côtes d'Armor and Finistère to the east, many travellers will pass through Ille-et-Vilaine. The principle gateway town is good-looking Rennes, from which span connections into the rest of Brittany. Rennes is well-served by trains; the TGV line between Le Mans and Rennes opened in 2017, cutting approximately 40 minutes off the train journey to Paris. Rennes also has a small airport with domestic and international flights.
Although driving in central Rennes is chaotic, it's an easy spot to fly or train into, pick up a hire car and head out to the countryside – indeed, getting behind the wheel is the way to see the region.
