Food culture is deep-rooted and rich in the Alps and Jura, and there are many specialities you should try in situ. Cheeses such as Reblochon, Comté and Tomme are justifiably celebrated, as are gratin dauphinois (potatoes, cream and onions), tartiflette (potatoes with diced bacon and Reblochon cheese) and other classic baked dishes. Good renditions are widely available in moderately priced bistros and brasseries, but there's ample opportunity for upmarket dining.
