    La Corne d'Or

Occupying a magnificent hôtel particulier (private mansion) built in 1748, this romantic B&B is filled with antiques, art and books on WWI. Some of the five imaginatively designed rooms and suites still have their original woodwork, gilded mirrors, marble fireplaces and stained glass. Australian host Rodney, formerly of Australia's Department of Veterans' Affairs, is a great resource.

    Hôtel Les 3 Luppars

Occupying the Grand' Place's only non-Flemish-style building (it's Gothic and dates from the 1400s), Les 3 Luppars (derived from 'Leopards') has a private courtyard and 42 rooms, 10 with fine views of the square. The decor is uninspired, but the location is great and the atmosphere is welcoming. Amenities include a sauna (€6 per person).

    Hôtel Diamant

This epicentral 12-room hotel has a homey, B&B-like atmosphere. You can see the Petite Place from six of the rooms, all of which are themselves quite petit (small); none are over 15 sq m. It also rents out two fully equipped apartments with space for five or six in the townhouse next door. There's no lift in either building.
