French Basque Countryside Tour from San Sebastian

Your local Basque guide will meet you at 9am at your hotel in San Sebastian to begin your day trip into the French Basque countryside. You will cross the border and head into the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. Your first stop will be the charming town of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (Donibane Garazi in Basque), the starting point of the most popular route of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela on The Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago). Cross its picturesque medieval bridge and stroll through the town's cobbled streets filled with typical Basque shops.  Continue your route towards the small town of Saint-Etienne-de-Baigorry. Traveling deeper into the French Basque region, you will head towards the picturesque town of Espelette, famous for its dried red peppers that are hung to dry from its houses during the summer months. Stroll through the town's colorful streets and do some Basque produce shopping.Your final stop will be the small village of Ainhoa. Located just a short distance from the Spanish border, this tiny village is the typical French Basque village, with its bright red and green houses, a church, a graveyard, and a fronton. You will then return to your accommodation in San Sebastian at around 5pm. A small amount of walking is involved, and the tour is not wheelchair accessible. Food, drinks, and gratuities are not included.
