Follow in the footsteps of some of the most infamous revolutionaries as you leave the famous Bastille and make your way through the winding back streets of the Marais district. Discover the events the led to the outbreak of one of the world’s most captivating revolutions, how it descended into violent political turmoil, and all the stories surrounding the terror as well as the trials of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, including a visit to her prison cell!
Meet your guide outside the Bastille Opera, right in front of its main stairs. After a brief introduction about the French Revolution, your guide will direct your attention to the square in front of you where you can see the outline of where the Bastille prison once stood. Afterwards, follow in the steps of the revolutionaries as you make your way to the Marais district. This district, once synonymous with nobility, was greatly affected by the revolution. Your guide will lead you through the narrow medieval streets where you can see what remains of this wealth and learn about the revolutionary events that unfolded there. Once out of the Marais you will make your way to the Hôtel de Ville and the Tour de Saint Jacques, both of which were ransacked during the revolution. From there, you will continue to the Conciergerie where you will learn all about the reign of the terror as well as the trials and executions of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. The tour will come full circle at the famous flower market on the Ile de la Cité, which was inaugurated by Napoleon who brought an end to the revolution.
