From late June to early August Wasaline runs daily ferries (adult/car/bicycle €38/53/5, 4½ hours) between Vaasa and the Swedish town of Umeå (Finnish: Uumaja). The ferry terminal is on the western side of the island of Vaskiluoto.
Up to five direct buses serve Helsinki (7½ hours) via Tampere (four hours). Frequent buses run up and down the west coast. Services depart from the bus station.
Vaasa trains connect via Seinäjoki (€10, one hour, up to 10 daily) to main-line destinations such as Tampere (€31, two hours, five daily) and Helsinki (€45, 3½ hours, five daily).
