Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is situated 17km southwest of the city. Airlines flying to/from Tampere:

AirBaltic Flies to Riga, Latvia.

Finnair Flies to Helsinki (though the train is more convenient), with connections to other Finnish cities.

Ryanair Flies to Budapest, Hungary, twice weekly.

SAS Flies to Stockholm, Sweden, and Málaga, Spain.

Transport Options

Tampere-Pirkkala airport is 17km southwest; arriving flights are met by bus 1A, which heads to the city centre (€5, 30 minutes) and also services to Helsinki. Tokee serves Ryanair flights, leaving from the train station forecourt about 2½ hours before take-off (€6).

Shared Tampereen Aluetaksi airport taxis must be booked in advance from the city to the airport (€20 per person). A regular cab will cost around €35.


Boats from Mustalahti Quay head north to Virrat via Ruovesi. Cruises to Viikinsaari and to Hämeenlinna via Visavuori leave from Laukontori Quay.


From the bus station, express buses serve Helsinki (€4.70 to €27, 2¾ hours, up to four hourly) and Turku (€2 to €12, two hours, hourly). There are services to most other major towns in Finland.


Trains link Tampere's central train station with Helsinki (from €8.90, 1½ to 1¾ hours, up to three hourly), Turku (from €9.70, 1¾ hours, up to six daily) and other cities.
