I will be transiting through Helsinki twice on the way to and fro the World Cup. Each time I will arrive at 7am and my outbound is at midnight. I would like to go into the city but I read Tallinn is very near too.
About me: Asian, visa-free for Schengen Area, Male, mid-30s, first time in Europe
1) I understand there is a Midsummer weekend? Will everything be back to normal by 25th morning(ie. shops, museums etc. open)?
2) I read the ferries to Tallinn are 2.5 hours each way. Are they prone to…
plan to travel to Helsinki for a few days and then head on to St. Petersburg. I will be there around midsummer and would love to travel further north in Finnland as well. Could you suggest places?
I will be on my own, female, no car, need trains/busses. I love nature, hiking, cycling and canoeing but alone it might be rather difficult.
Is there a city easily reachablefrom where I can spend sometime in nature as well?
We (My wife and I and our 7 year old) have about two weeks off in December during Christmas and wanted to visit the winter wonderland of Finland. The tentative plan is to fly into Helsinki on the 22nd and stay there for about 3-4 days. We then plan to go to Rovaniemi and stay there for about 3 days and on our return, depending on the time of the flight, we'll either go to Tallinn or stay a night in Helsinki and then go to Tallinn and stay about 3-4 days. Return flight will be via Helsinki…
Hello fellow travelers,
I am planning to travel around Finland this summer with freinds form university. Currently have nothing sorted and looking to travel in July. Flights are cheapest into Stockholm. Was wondering what the cheapest way to get from Stockholm into Finland? And if interrail pass is worth getting for Finland? Would be aiming to spend two weeks traveling, any suggestions of places to go and see?
We are planning a trip in next April and want to visit Lapland for various activities ( husky / reindeer rides, snowmobiling, ice karting, ice breaker sampo). Also very much interested in seeing the ice gallery / ice hotel ( not staying overnight... but day visit)
May I please request your inputs for following:
Since neither snow activities nor any snow castle are available in or near Helsinki, we are planning to visit Lapland. I hope that is the correct line of thought?
My friend and I are flying in and out of Helsinki and have 10 days. We know we also want to visit Tallinn. We'd love to also go to Riga, but it seems it will take us too far out of the way and getting there seems time consuming. Would you suggest half our time in Helsinki, half in Tallinn with possible day trips to Porvoo and Parnu respectively? Any other day trips? We don't have anything booked yet. Trying to figure out the best itinerary for our week and a half.
I'm planning to travel north through the Baltics and Finland to Nordkap and then south through Norway by motorbike this summer. I have been advised to look into putting myself and the bike on the car-carrier train at Pasila or Turku and traveling north to Oulu or Rovaniemi. Hard to get clear info from railroad website. If you are familiar with this route, could you advise me? Are the train seats adequate for sleeping or do they have sleeping bunks available? How far in advance must one purchase…
I'm an 18yo student and I intend to travel to Warsaw with a 23 hour layover at Finland. Will my Schengen Visa(tourist) be enough for me to step out of the airport and look around in the city?
I just got Finland's guidebook and it says in several places that northern lights are best visible at Lapland around April.
Reading few of the comment online and here in this forum, I come to understand April is not the best time.
Usually, tips on the printed guide are spot on but in this case, it got me a bit confused.
I will be happy if someone could help me better understand: is April the best time to view northern lights in Lapland? Hows the beginning of May in this matter?
Anyone have a rough idea of how much 3 meals a day plus water/juice would be in Finland? Will use supermarkets for breakfast & lunch but will probably eat out for dinner every other day. However, it won't even be a midrange restaurant, it'll be at a cafe-type place.
A ballpark figure would do, 30€? More, less?
