Between September and April, ice hockey reigns supreme; going to a game is a fantastic Helsinki experience. The world championships in May are avidly watched on big screens.

The football (soccer) season runs from April to October; Helsinki's successful local team HJK (Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi) has a passionate following.


Most theatre productions are in Finnish. The Finnish National Theatre, Kansallisteatteri, is based in a beautiful National Romantic art nouveau building.
