Welcome to Nadarivatu, Navai & Koro-Ni-O
You can also walk from Navai, which is 8km southeast of Nadarivatu, to Tomanivi’s peak. Allow at least five hours (return) to hike from the village. Guides can be hired for $20. The last half of the climb is practically rock climbing and can be very slippery.
The Wainibuka and Wainimala Rivers (eventually merging to form the Rewa River) originate around here, as does the Sigatoka River. Past Navai, the road deteriorates and a 4WD is needed. Koro-ni-O (‘village of the clouds’ in Fijian) and the Monasavu Dam are about 25km to the southeast. The Wailoa/Monasavu Hydroelectric Scheme here provides about 93% of Viti Levu’s power needs.
