8 Days Omo Valley Tour

Day 1: Depart south from Addis Ababa via Butajira. Visit the archeological sites of Tiya (ancient stelae field and UNESCO World Heritage Site), Adadi Maryam rock-hewn church and Melka Kunture pre-historic tool-making site. Final destination for the day is Awassa in reserved Hotel. Day 2: After breakfast, visit the fish market on the shores of Lake Awassa and proceed driving to Dorze, set in the highlands above Arba Minch. The Dorze are known for their tall beehive-like houses and fine cotton weaving. You will visit the village and learn about the daily lives of these industrious people and overnight in reserved Hotel. Day 3: Depart to Arba Minch for a boat trip on Lake Chamo to visit the “crocodile market”, and the local hippos. Afterwards, depart from Arba Minch to Turmi. You will pass through the village of Weyto, which is home to the Tsemai tribe. Continue through the Weyto Valley to Erbore, you will have a brief visit to a local Erbore village. Finally, proceed to Turmi, home of the Hamer tribe. At night, you can see “Evangadi” traditional night dancing of the Hamer tribe & Overnight in reserved lodge. Day 4: Take a day trip to Omorate to visit the Dassenech tribe. Here you will cross the Omo River by local boat and enter a Dassenech village. Afterwards, return to Turmi for a visit of the Hamer village. If lucky attend “Bull- jumping” traditional Hamer coming-ofage ceremony & Overnight in reserved lodge. Day 5: Drive to Jinka, via Dimeka and Key Afer. Tuesdays and Saturdays are market days in Dimeka, which is one of the most colorful markets in the area and is visited by many tribes, including Hamer, Benna and Karo. Afterwards, continue to Jinka & Overnight in reserved resort. Day 6: Drive through the Mago National Park to a local village of the Mursi tribe. The Mursi are known for their lower lip and earlobe plates. In the afternoon returning to Jinka, you can visit the South Omo Museum & Research Center to learn more about the local tribes. Alternatively, take a hike in the surrounding hills to visit a local Ari village & Overnight in reserved resort. Day 7: Depart from Jinka to Arba Minch via Key Afer and Konso. Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where you will see the Benna and Tsemai tribes trading goods. After the visit, proceed to Konso, are known for their wooden statues, known as wakas, which are erected in honor of dead heroes, as well as their innovative agricultural terracing. You will visit a local village and the cultural museum displaying many waka statues. After the visit, proceed driving to Arba Minch & Overnight in a reserved lodge. Day 8: Drive to Addis Ababa from Arba Minch. In the evening you will have farewell party in one of Ethiopian traditional restaurant where you can see cultural music and dance. Then Transfer to the airport for flight back home.

Day 1 : Arba Minch to DorzeYou will be met at Arba Minch airport and will take a beautiful drive up the mountains to Dorze village - home of Ethiopia's weavers.  You will enjoy a walking tour – visit the traditional bamboo houses, learn how to make the local bread from false banana tree, enjoy the market, watch women spinners and see the famous Dorze weavers. Stay overnight at Dorze Lodge, renowned for the spectacular views of the two Rift Valley lakes. After dinner, sit by the camp fire and enjoy the local singing and dancing.Day 2 : Dorze to Arba Minch (Lake Chamo and Nechisar National Park) After seeing sunrise, drive to Arba Minch and take a motor boat across Lake Chamo to visit Nechisar National Park. Take a gentle hike across the savannah and see zebras, gazelles and different types of animals. On the return boat ride, you will see giant crocodiles, hippos, local fishermen, pelicans and different types of birds. Spend the evening in Arba Minch. Stay overnight at Haile Resort.Day 3 : Arba Minch to Konso to TurmiDrive to Konso, a UNESCO world heritage site.  Your village walking tour will include Konso's renowned stone walled terraces and fortified settlements,  wooden statues (Waga), and stone steles (a complex system of marking the passing of leaders).  Drive to Turmi, a market town and home to the Hamer tribe.  Stay overnight at Turmi lodge.Day 4 : Karo tribe - Hamer market - Hamer villageSpend the morning visiting the Karo tribe, famed for their body painting and elaborate headdresses - decorating with nature. Drive back to Turmi in time for the colourful afternoon Hamer market. If there is a coming of age ceremony, attend a bull jumping ceremony. Camp overnight with a BBQ in a Hamer village, where you will welcomed as a member of the family. Day 5 : Turmi - Omorate - Dassanech tribe - JinkaDrive to Omorate, on the Omo River, which is as deep as one can get into the Omo valley, without entering Kenya. Cross the river to visit Ethiopia's most southern tribe, Dassanech. Afterwards, drive to Jinka which is set in the hills above Mago National Park and capital of the Omo Valley.  You will visit the South-Omo Museum & Research Centre which hosts interesting exhibitions.  Stay overnight in an Eco lodge.Day 6 : Mursi and Ari tribesDrive through Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe, famed for their unique lip plates. After lunch, visit the Ari Tribe, renowned for their pottery, agriculture and beautiful wall paintings. OMO VALLEY LOCAL GUIDED AUTHENTIC CULTURAL TOUR

• Omo Valley Tours 10 Days detailed itinerary to discover the untouched and unique Omo Valley tribal communities. Dear Clients, This is a detail day by day program of the Omo Valley Tribal Ring to discover the daily authentic and uninterrupted life of an untouched tribal communities.  Day 1. Pick up from hotel in Addis and drive directly to Arbaminch where we will make a right turn right before the city of Arbaminch and head to the Dorze tribe of Chencha and visit the village life of these people; famous for traditional cloth making by weaving cotton using locally made instruments. We will visit their late afternoon village life. Finally, we drive back to Arbamimch and overnight in Paradise Lodge.  Day 2. In the morning we drive directly to Jinka where we will make a stop in Konso and visit the village life of these hard working communities ,well known for their terracing culture that dates back to some 500 years, to cultivate crops especially Maize and Sorghum in a challenging topography which has been recognised by UNESCO as a heritage. After visiting this village for as long as you want and head to Jinka where we will visit the village life of the Ari tribe who live on the plateau lands surrounding Jinka town( The administrative town of the 16 different Tribal communities of the Omo valley area). Overnight in Eco-Omo lodge.  Day 3. In the morning we head to the unique tribe of Mursi ( The women are famous for putting clay made circular lip and ear plates which symbolizes beauty in honor) crossing through Mago National Park in order to reach their village. We will visit the uninterrupted authentic daily life activities the entire afternoon where this will give an excellent time of interaction which makes it a once in a lifetime time experience. Overnight through camping with the tribes where we will have an excellent cook with us and a well organized team with complete and clean camping gears enough for all.  Day 4. In the morning after breakfast we drive back to Jinka and then continue driving directly to Turmi where we will have several village stops on our way down to meet the tribes we come across as such: Banna and Hammer tribes village life daily activity with no interruptions till late afternoon and overnight in Buska Lodge. Not forgetting to mention that we will attend any colorful tribal markets we come across which happen once in a week in each tribal destination.  Day 5. In the morning we drive further down to Omorate which is a border town with the Northwest Kenya as to visit the Dasenech tribe deep in their remote villages leaving the commonly visited ones by going down as far as the Northern tip of Lake Turkana and experience a wonderful time you will never forget. Later on we drive back to Turmi and camp overnight with one of the most hospitable tribes of the Hammer people within their communal village compound with an excellent interaction time.
